It is known that fiber nonlinearities induce crosstalk in a wavelengthdivision multiplexed (WDM) system . We characterize, for the first time, an outer bound on the capacity region of simultaneously achievablerate pairs, assuming a general K-user perturbative channel model usinggenie-aided techniques . An achievable rate region is obtained by time-sharing between certain single-user strategies, and it is shown that thelatter can achieve better rate tuples compared to treating nonlinearinterference as noise . The authors conclude that the upper bound on an optical WDM channel can be achieved by time sharing .
